Manchester
SEM Talent is based in Manchester and recruits across engineering and technology: embedded and firmware, electronics and hardware, software, cloud, data and AI, cyber security and IT. The person who screens the candidates is an engineer who has shipped firmware and brought up boards, which is the part most agencies hand to someone matching keywords on a CV.
Local, but not only local
Anywhere inside Greater Manchester, the brief can be taken face to face with the engineer the hire will report to. Everywhere else it is a call. Either way the questions are the same: the stack, the product, the constraints, and what would make you say no at interview.
We run the technical conversation ourselves, so somebody who can follow the answer is asking the questions. Anyone who cannot stand behind what is on their CV stops with us rather than in front of you.
You get a small number of people with written notes on each: what they built, what they want next, their notice period and what they expect to be paid. Not a stack of CVs to sift.
We count what these roles are actually advertised at each month rather than guessing, so if your budget will not reach the market you hear it on the first call. See the figures.
Coverage
The base is Manchester, so Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire are the easiest places to meet. The search itself is UK-wide and remote-first, because the engineer who fits a Manchester role is often not in Manchester, and a lot of these roles are hybrid or fully remote anyway. Pretending otherwise narrows the shortlist for no reason.

Send the stack, the team it sits in and what would make you say no at interview. If we are not the right firm for it, we will say so on the first call rather than take the brief anyway.
